Turn new cards into images

The image automation turns a new card's text into an image. It is useful for visual brainstorms, moodboards, storytelling, and playful activities.

Choose the image settings

Open AI & Automations for your activity, then find AI Image Generation.

Image prompt

The Image prompt tells Stormz what to create. {{card.content}} is replaced by the text from each card, including the completed sentence of a Fill-in Card.

Keep that placeholder in the template. You can add simple instructions around it, for example:

Illustrate {{card.content}}. Use a simple composition. Do not add words to the image.

Click outside the prompt field to save your changes.

Image style

Under Image style, choose a look such as Photo Realistic, Storybook Illustration, Watercolor, or 3D Render. The same style instructions are sent with every image in the activity, helping the collection look consistent.

If you describe your own style in the prompt, select No style to avoid competing instructions. Style changes save when you select an option.

These settings also apply when you generate an image by hand from a card.

Add variation to an image prompt

You may want a shared illustration style without every card showing similar people or colours. Each image is generated independently: the AI cannot see the other cards and coordinate variety across the collection.

Put alternative options inside square brackets, separated by |:

Illustrate {{card.content}}.
Accent colour: [teal|coral|mustard|lavender|sky blue]
Use a simple composition with no text.

Before sending each prompt to the AI, Stormz randomly selects one option from each bracket. For example, the colour instruction might become Accent colour: coral for one image and Accent colour: teal for another.

Use this for characters, colours, settings, viewpoints, objects, or visual metaphors. Instructions outside the brackets stay fixed.

• Each bracket is selected independently for each generation. Options can repeat; an evenly balanced collection is not guaranteed.
• Use at least two non-empty options in each bracket. Nested choices and conditional rules are not supported.
• Only choices in Image prompt are processed. Brackets in a participant's answer are left unchanged.
• Add an instruction that explicit participant details take priority over the selected variations. The AI interprets that instruction; Stormz does not detect conflicts automatically.

Example: the magic button activity

Ask participants what they would change about their working day. In Fill in the gap, use this Fill-in Card template:

If I had a magic button on my desk, I would want it to [wish].

An answer could be “turn confusing instructions into a clear path forward.” Participants describe what the button does, leaving room for the image prompt to vary the person at the desk.

In AI & Automations → AI Image Generation, select 3D Render under Image style and paste this into Image prompt:

Keep a simple composition, soft lighting and a clean background.
Explicit details in the participant's idea take priority.
No text, labels, logos or speech bubbles.

Click outside the field to save. The [wish] gap is filled by the participant; the bracketed options in the image prompt are selected by Stormz. You do not need to edit a separate prompt for each card.

Turn on image generation

1. In AI & Automations, find Enable automations for this activity.
2. Select AI Image to turn it on. The change saves automatically.

Stormz now creates an image for each new eligible text card, including Fill-in Cards, in the current activity. Cards that already exist are not changed.

Turn the card into an image card

Generating the image adds it to the card. Leave To Image off if you want to keep the original card type, for example a Fill-in Card showing both its completed sentence and illustration.

If you want to change the card type to an image card, also select To Image under Enable automations for this activity. Stormz runs image generation before conversion automatically; you do not need to arrange the actions.

Get better images

• Use activities with clear, visual answers.
• Keep the image instructions short.
• Choose one style that fits the whole activity.
• Tell participants that image generation may take a few seconds.

If Stormz cannot create an image, the participant's original card remains available.

AI Credits

Image generation uses AI Credits. If there are not enough current-period AI Credits, Stormz keeps the card and skips the image action.
