Why find related cards?

You are reading a card and wonder whether someone else has said something similar.

There may be too many cards to check one by one. Similar ideas may also use different words, so looking for one exact word is not enough.

Related cards starts with one card and shows other visible cards ordered by similarity. It helps you compare contributions and discuss them together. Opening the results does not change any cards.

It is also useful during a debrief, when the group discusses its answers. While one person presents their card, you want to see who else has something similar to share.

Open Related cards to find those contributions. You can then invite someone by name:

I see Lisa added something similar. Lisa, would you like to tell us about your idea?

You can see whom to invite next, without searching the whole board or waiting for someone to raise a hand.

Turn on related-card search

You need to be a facilitator in a card activity.

Stormz first needs to prepare card text for comparison. This is called indexing. It sends the card's title and text to an AI provider. Indexing and related-card search do not use AI Credits.

1. Open AI & Automations from the Facilitator Bar.
2. Find When a card is created.
3. Turn on Index cards for related search.
4. Select Save & Close.

New cards with text are now prepared automatically. While this setting is on, Stormz also updates the index after an indexed card's text changes.

Cards that were already in the activity are not prepared automatically. Use the next steps for those cards.

Prepare existing cards

1. Open AI & Automations again.
2. Find Index Cards.
3. Select Index cards with AI.
4. Keep the panel open while Stormz prepares the cards.

This processes cards in the activity, including cards hidden by your current board filters. Cards with no text are skipped. Cards whose index is already up to date do not need to be prepared again.

You can select Cancel to stop. Cards already prepared remain ready. If you run it again, Stormz skips those that are still up to date.

To prepare just one card, open its three-dot menu and choose Index card. If its text has changed, the option is Update card index instead.

Find related cards

1. Find the card you want to explore.
2. Open its three-dot menu.
3. Select Related cards.

The side panel shows your starting card first, followed by up to 20 other cards ordered by similarity.

Use a view with full cards, such as Card Wall or Kanban, if you cannot see the card menu.

The search uses cards on your current board. Cards hidden by filters, and cards hidden inside stacks, do not appear as separate results.

Select the refresh button at the top of the panel to check the results again.

Choose which cards to stack

Read the results and choose which contributions belong together. Click the starting card, then hold Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) and click the results you want. Click Stack in the bottom toolbar.

You can also drag a result onto an existing stack's count sticker. See Stack cards for more, or use AI to create stacks from a larger selection.

If cards are missing

• You cannot see Related cards in the menu: check that indexing is turned on and that you are a facilitator. The card needs text and an up-to-date index.
• You see Index card or Update card index: select that option, then open Related cards when indexing has finished.
• The panel says No indexed visible cards: prepare the other cards in the activity, then refresh the results.
• A card you expected is missing: check your board filters and whether the card is inside a stack. The results show at most 20 other cards.
• Stormz asks you to narrow the search: use filters to show fewer cards, then try again.
