Use image zones in a poll

Image zones place poll answers on an image instead of showing them only as a standard list or scale.

You can use them with single choice, multiple choice, ranking, and scale rating. The poll format still controls what each participant submits. Image zones change how people see and interact with the answers.

For example, a check-in could show Need more time and Ready to continue on two sides of an image. A ranking poll could ask participants to prioritize four areas of a project directly on a diagram.

Choose the Image zones layout

You can configure Image zones while creating a poll:

1. Choose a poll format and enter the question and answers.
2. Under Display, find Layout.
3. Select Image zones.
4. Choose a template.
5. Check the preview, then create the activity.

To change an existing poll:

1. Open Poll in the Facilitator Bar.
2. Under Display, select Image zones.
3. Choose a template.
4. Select Save & Close.

Changing the layout or template does not clear responses. Changing the poll format does.

Choose a built-in template

Stormz includes:

• Two panels: two equal areas side by side.
• Three panels: three equal areas side by side.
• Four areas: a two-by-two grid.
• Five areas: five equal areas side by side.

Two panels is the initial template for single-choice, multiple-choice, and ranking polls. Scale rating starts with Five areas because the scale always contains five points.

How answers connect to zones

Stormz connects answers and zones by their order:

• Choice A uses Zone 1.
• Choice B uses Zone 2.
• Choice C uses Zone 3.

Reordering the choices changes where they appear on the image. Scale points 1 to 5 connect to Zones 1 to 5 in the same way.

If the template has more zones than answers, the unused zones stay hidden. If a single-choice, multiple-choice, or scale-rating poll has more answers than zones, the extra answers do not appear on the image and cannot be selected there.

In a ranking poll, items without a visible zone are placed after the visible items in their current order when the participant submits. Check the preview so you know which items participants can actively reorder.

Control what appears in each pill

Each zone has a pill containing its choice marker and text.

Use Edit poll choices to set the choice metadata. In Image zones:

• Short label replaces the full choice in the pill.
• Icon appears before the pill text.
• Color is used for the pill, zone interaction, and results.

If there is no short label, the pill uses the full choice. Moving over the pill shows the full choice in a tooltip.

Choice order determines the A/B/C marker and automatic color. A custom color stays with its choice when you reorder it. The markers remain visible because participants can also answer polls through Meeting Bot chat.

Create your own image zones

You can replace a built-in template with your own image and areas.

1. Select the pencil button beside Template.
2. Select Upload image.
3. Choose a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, or SVG file up to 8 MB.
4. Select a zone in the list.
5. Use Clear path when you want to redraw it.
6. Select at least three points around the area on the image.
7. Drag points to adjust the area.
8. Drag the numbered pill to a readable position.
9. Use Add zone or Delete zone to match the answers you want to show.
10. Select Done.
11. Select Save & Close in the Poll panel.

Once a custom template has been saved, Custom template appears in the template menu so you can restore it after trying a built-in template.

Keep pill positions away from busy parts of the image. Check the result on a narrow screen before using it with participants.

What participants do

Single choice

The participant selects one zone or its pill. Stormz submits the answer immediately.

Multiple choice

The participant selects one or more zones, reviews the highlighted choices, and selects Submit response. The Maximum choices setting still applies.

Ranking

Each visible zone starts with a numbered rank sticker. The participant drags a sticker onto another zone or pill to assign that rank there. The intervening ranks move automatically, so every visible item remains ordered.

When the order represents their answer, they select Submit response. Items without visible zones are appended afterward in their current order.

Scale rating

The participant selects one numbered zone from 1 to 5. Stormz submits the rating immediately. The low and high labels explain the direction of the scale.

The image does not need to look like a traditional scale. Its five zones can be any shapes or positions that suit the question.

Participants can zoom and move around the image when they need a closer look. See Change a poll to let Change answer return them to the zones.

Read the results

The result pills keep their A/B/C markers and show the same percentages, scores, and progress indicators as the Standard layout.

For single-choice and multiple-choice polls, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place stickers highlight the podium results. Choices with the same response count share the same place.

For ranking polls, every visible item receives a place sticker. The pill shows its average score out of the total number of ranking items and a matching progress bar. Items with the same average score share the same place.

Scale-rating results show the percentage at each point without place stickers. Read the distribution rather than treating the five points as competing choices.

In single-choice, multiple-choice, and scale-rating results, the participant’s own selections have a dashed outline. A configured good answer in a single-choice or multiple-choice poll has a solid outline. When both refer to the same zone, the solid good-answer outline takes precedence.

You can wait to reveal the results when early answers might influence later responses.

Show the poll on Stage

Use Presentation Mode to show the image across the shared display. The question remains above the image while the zones use the available Stage space.

Participants continue responding from their own devices.
